Questions about video tools

Do I need an avatar tool, or is a voiceover enough?

Voiceover, unless the format expects a face. ElevenLabs over screen capture is faster, cheaper, and avoids the reaction a synthetic presenter still gets from some audiences. Synthesia and HeyGen earn their price when the video has to read as coming from a person — onboarding, compliance, anything with a company’s name on it.

Synthesia or HeyGen?

Synthesia if it is training and has to land in an LMS, because SCORM export and the template controls are built for exactly that. HeyGen if it is marketing or outreach at volume, because its API turns per-recipient video into a batch job rather than a project.

What still needs a real editor?

Anything with a human recording in it. Generative tools produce takes; Descript is where takes become an edit — filler words and dead air out, and a long recording cut down to the short captioned version that goes on social.
