One rule along the top of each cell and one down its left side. They are drawn as thin rectangles wholly inside the cell rather than as strokes on its edge: a stroke centred on the boundary hangs half outside, the tile clips the overhang, and the grid comes out at half the weight it was asked for. The rectangle has no such argument with the edge.
