Squares turned through forty-five degrees, half-dropped so the gaps between them are themselves diamonds. The shape is rotated rather than the field, which leaves the angle control free to turn the whole lattice on top of that — and it is that second rotation, not the first, that separates a plain diamond grid from an argyle.
