Questions about writing tools

Is a dedicated writing tool worth it when ChatGPT drafts anything?

It depends on how many people write. One person drafting is a job ChatGPT does well; four people writing to customers in four registers is a consistency problem, and that is what Jasper’s Brand Voice and Grammarly’s style guides are sold to fix. Buying a team plan so one founder can draft blog posts is the wrong end of it.

What is the difference between a writing assistant and an editor?

Where they sit in the process. Jasper, Copy.ai and Sudowrite generate — they produce a draft that did not exist. Grammarly edits what is already written, and runs in every app you type in rather than one. Notion AI does both, but only inside Notion. Most teams need one of each and buy three of the first.

Can these produce publishable copy without an editor?

No, and none of them claim to. They shorten the distance to a solid first draft, which is where most of the time goes. Whether the argument holds, whether the example is real and whether it sounds like your company is still a person’s job — and it is the part readers notice.
