How it works

One zigzag per cell instead of a nest of them, with the row spacing set independently of the cell width. Where the chevron packs a cell until it reads as texture, this leaves air between the rows and stays a line drawing. Depth and spacing pull against each other: past the point where the peaks reach the row above, the field closes up into a lattice.
