Google Gemini
Google's AI assistant across Search, Workspace and a standalone app
Google's conversational AI assistant, built into a standalone app, Search and Workspace, with a free tier and paid plans that unlock stronger models, more storage and agentic features.

Picked for Remote Team Meeting & Knowledge Stack.
Gemini is Google’s answer to the general-purpose AI chatbot, but its real advantage shows up for people already living in Gmail, Docs and Search — it can draft a reply using the actual thread it’s replying to, summarize a Doc without you copying text anywhere, and surface answers directly inside search results. Used standalone, it competes reasonably well with other chatbots; used inside Workspace, it does things they structurally can’t.
That makes it a natural fit for anyone whose work already runs through Google’s tools: teams drafting in Docs, people managing a busy inbox, or students and researchers who want Deep Research to compile a longer report from many sources without leaving the app. Gems let you configure a lightweight custom assistant for a repeating task, similar to custom bots on other platforms.
The tier structure is its weakest point from a user’s perspective — features move around between the free plan, Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra in ways that aren’t always obvious upfront, and it takes some digging to work out which plan actually includes the feature you want. Response quality can also feel less consistent than tools built with a narrower focus, which is the tradeoff of being wired into so many different products at once.
It’s a strong pick if you’re bought into the Google ecosystem already; less compelling as a reason to switch if you’re not.
Features
Deep Research
Runs a multi-step research pass across many sources and compiles a longer written report with citations.
Gems
Custom mini-assistants configured with specific instructions and context for a recurring task.
Workspace integration
Drafts, summarizes and answers questions using content directly from Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Drive for subscribers.
Canvas
A collaborative editing surface for iterating on documents, code or slides alongside the chat.
Very large context window
Whole books, long PDFs and hours of video fit in a single conversation, so a summary is drawn from the document rather than from a chunk of it.
Gemini Live
Spoken back-and-forth with interruption, plus camera and screen sharing, for the questions that are quicker to show than to type.
